Player Development Activities for 2018/2019 Season

Sonoran summer has come to an end and it’s time to gear up for QCPC’s new Season.

QCPC has a new Player Development Program and the team of nearly 30 people are ready and excited to begin.

The Program has 5 different teams that focus on a specific skill level.  Each team has an organizer and at least 8 coaches, which should allow us to offer something weekly without overloading a few people.

A BIG THANK YOU to team organizers who take responsibility for setting the times, putting a notice in our Newsletter and managing SignupGenius:

Lenny Friedman - Beginners
Linda VonFelden - Assisted Play
Steve Shapiro and Judy Lyle - 2.5 skills
Sharon Kolarik - 3.0 skills
Bill Vollink - 3.5 skills

Another BIG THANK YOU to all the coaches who are willing to give their time.  If you are interested in joining the fun, you still can by contacting Jean Bustard at jenab@dcmesa.com

Please bear with us as we get our feet on the ground and figure things out.  We consider October our “soft opening” (like our new Grill but earlier - haha).  We will track participation and gather feedback.

This is important - Please sign up at the correct skill level and for only one skill level drill session per week.  This means if you signup for 2.5 drills please don’t also signup for 3.0 drills.  The following week you can change.  If you don’t know your skill level, pick the lower of your 2 choices and work your way up.  You will learn faster this way.

Theme of the Month - Ready Position

Each month we will have a theme that will be emphasized in the clinics.  October is Ready Position.

Pickleball is a fast paced game.  The faster you are ready to return a ball, the better chance you have of making a good shot.  Your paddle should be ready BEFORE your opponent hits the ball.

Get into Ready Position quickly after every stroke.

In Ready Position paddle is up and in front of you, feet shoulder width apart, knees bent and weight on your toes. Get into Ready Position quickly after every stroke.

OUT WITH THE OLD....IN WITH THE NEW

The QCPC membership purchased 16 new pickleball nets this year.  The new nets were installed on all courts on Wednesday, Sept 26th.

A big thank you goes out to those who helped put the nets up:  Gary Mencimer, Dave and Georgine Thomas, John Sicardi, Sharon Kolarik, and Steve Shapiro.

Game On!!

Paddle Stacking When  Courts Are Full

A process (called paddle stacking) for rotating in will be incorporated starting October 1. A process (called paddle stacking) for rotating players onto courts is used when needed.  Stack four (4) paddles together outside of court 11.  When a game is finished, the first group of 4 paddles will rotate onto open court; the next group of 4 takes the next open court when the game is finished.  Players coming off the courts will stack their paddles at the end.  First is furthest to the left, end is further to the right when looking at the paddles.  When members are waiting, players must exit court at end of game.

Casitas Needed

We have a number of pickleball pros visiting in 2018 and 2019.  It is helpful to be able to house them in Quail Creek casitas.  If you have a casita and would be willing to have a pickleball pro stay in it for 2-3 nights, please contact Jean Bustard, 303-921-8139, jeanb@dcmesa.com. She will keep a list of potentially available casitas, and call you to see if your casita is available for a specific visitor. Thanks for your help in accommodating our visiting pros.
