Pickleball Ramada

With the nice weather approaching more groups from Quail Creek are reserving the Pickleball Ramada.  This weekend there are two groups that have reserved the Ramada. The Saturday group is from noon to 2:30, and Sunday from 1 to 5pm.  Just a reminder that when the Ramada is reserved it is primarily their space to use, so please be respectful and do not use the space during that time.  Please be aware of the extra traffic in the parking lot.

IPTPA Ratings -
Wednesday, March 13

IPTPA rating sessions will be held on Wednesday March 13.  A session requires 4 people going for the same skill level rating (i.e., 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0).  Please note skill level rating you want in the comment box, then others wanting same rating can sign up with you.  Sean Rickard will conduct the ratings, he is a Certified Rating Specialist (CRS).  Go to IPTPA website (IPTPA.com) to see requirements for each level.

If this is your first rating as QCPC member, you will need to join IPTPA for $15 as a 3-year individual member.  The club will pay the CRS for your first rating.

If you have already been rated through QCPC, you do not need to rejoin IPTPA as your membership is valid for 3-years.  You will need to pay the $25 CRS fee directly to the CRS.

Practice sessions will be held for those who signup for a rating.

Signup HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0e4ca8ae2fa3fc1-iptpa13.

If you have questions, contact Jean Bustard at jeanb@dcmesa.com.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Warm-Up Routine by Rob Davidson

Put some regimen in your warm-up to hit the court ready to play with this 5 - 8 minute warm-up routine.   This routine is done with a partner who will feed balls at 50 - 75% to help warm-up mind and shot mechanics.  Both players have a specific role and skill to work on.

Warm up routine:
  1. Targeted dinks (3 to left foot, 3 to middle, 3 to right foot), other person work on lateral movement
  2. Alternate roles on Targeted dinks
  3. Regressive drops from NVZ to baseline (one step back, drop, one step back drop until baseline), then 3 - 5 drops from baseline, other person works on ball placement bouncing ball in front of partner
  4. 3 drives and 3 lobs from baseline, partner works on punch volley to keep person deep and overhead smash at 50%
  5. Progressive drops to the NVZ, partner works on ball placement
  6. Player 2 repeats 3, 4 and 5
  7. Fast volleys

A diagram of this warmup can be seen HERE

LET'S "TACO-BOUT" LOVE FIESTA OF PICKLEBALL

THANKS TO THE ORGANIZERS :

PICKLEBALL IS A GAME
A GAME IS DESIGNED FOR FUN
REMEMBER RESPECT IS IMPORTANT

Before serving the ball:

to your opponents, make sure the receiver is ready
Call out the score, and identify your server number, so they know you are ready to serve
Pause a moment before serving to allow time to deal with any disagreement as to the proper score

Line calls are the responsibility of the receiving side
You should not call faults or other line calls on the other side of the net unless asked to do so. If you are on the receiving team and your partner calls a ball out that you think may have been in, tell your partner you disagree and attempt to resolve the disagreement between you.  If your team cannot agree on the line call, then the call goes in favor of your opponents. If an erroneous line call interferes with a player’s play, then the point should be replayed.

Control Your Temper
Foul or abusive language, or unsportsmanlike gloating or laughing at an opponent’s mistake, is not allowed and may result in disciplinary action.  Likewise, paddle or ball abuse is not permitted.

Be kind and respectful
to everyone at the courts. The courts are open to all residents of the Robson Community.  Remember, the courts are not segregated by ability, all courts are available for all levels.

If abusive behavior is observed
and not corrected acceptably, please notify any member of the QCPC Board of the identity of the offender and the circumstances of the offense.  The Board has the authority to conduct disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the Bylaws.

Mixed 3.0-3.5 OP Round Robins: Fridays from 10:00 am to noon

will be reserved for Club Open Play during Prime Time

RATING  LIST INFORMATION

The Club maintains a list of Club member USAPA and IPTPA skill ratings on the QCPC web page (second tab at top).  This list is provided to help Club members arrange play with others at their skill level. It is also provided to assist Skill-Level Play organizers because ratings are a key qualification for Skill-Level Round Robin participation.  Member skill ratings may change, so the list must be updated periodically.  This is especially true now because the USAPA instituted a new rating system effective January 1, 2019.  If you have a USAPA or IPTPA rating, please check the Club’s list and update it, if necessary, by sending an email to Susan Jones (Membership Chairperson) at sejones1003@yahoo.com

Club Round Robins: It’s Never Too Late!

Oh yes it is!!  If you are attending any Club-sponsored round robin (Organized Play, Skill-Level Play, or Wednesday morning round robins), you should arrive and check in at least ten minutes early.  Round robin organizers need a final player count and time to set up the charts so play can begin at the scheduled time.  If you arrive after play has started, you forfeit your playing opportunity even if you signed up on Sign-up Genius.  So, be kind to your round robin organizer and fellow players—arrive and check-in early, please!
