INFORMATION ABOUT DRILLS

We are taking a break from 3.0 and 3.5 drills for a couple of weeks.

Our coaches have been overwhelmed with people signing up for drills who do not meet the guidelines.  This puts our coaches in the uncomfortable position of having to ask people to remove their names.  It is important to both coaches and players that participants in a drill class have similar abilities with the skills.
QCPC does not want members deciding what level player you are.  We chose a rating system that uses an outside, trained and certified professional to do our ratings to not put our coaches in the position of deciding what skill level you should be participating in.  Even with an outside rating specialist disappointment happens, but at least people can be upset with the process and not with other club members.  Ratings administered by club members for club members often result in friction and bad feelings.  Recently this has started happening in our club and the friction is directed at our and coaches who are trying to follow the guidelines we have set.
We know people enjoy the player development activities we offer.  Last year we filled over 2,000 slots over a 6-month period.  We want to continue offering popular drill classes.
To assure that coaches are NOT put in the position of assessing someone’s skill level, we will now require that you must have a USAPA or IPTPA rating to participate in 3.0 and 3.5 drills.  Assisted Play, 2.0 drills and 2.5 drills will continue as they are.
We will start drills again the week of October 28.
Our Player Development coaches enjoy sharing their knowledge with you and seeing people improve.  They do not enjoy asking people to remove their names from the list.  Please help us with this situation.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
JEAN BUSTARD

Thank you all for attending our Drill sessions.  We currently are offering Assisted Play, 2.0 and 3.5 skill level drills.  3.0 drills will start again later in the month and 2.5 drills start in November.  We depend on our organizers and right now several are out of town.

How do you know which drill session to attend?

The wisdom from tennis and pickleball coaches is drill down and play up.  Drilling at a higher level than where you are today does not help you improve at that skill.  It takes practice to execute skills and once you have mastered the technique then you can add more advanced moves with the same skill.

QCPC offers drills to provide opportunities to work on your game.  We offer drills to as many skill levels as we have resources for.  To manage this we have guidelines on what’s needed to signup for a certain skill level.  The guidelines are 1) have a USAPA or IPTPA rating at that skill level or 2) have been told by coaches to move to the next skill level drills.  Please help us and our coaches by respecting these guidelines.

  • Free referee training session
  • USAPA certified referee, Charlotte Jorgenson
  • October 24 from 8:00-11:00 for classroom training
  • On-court practical training at the GVR, East Center, Green Valley

This clinic will teach you not only how you can possibly win a couple of 'free' points in a match by knowing the rules, but it will help you feel confident in refereeing matches for fun and sometimes payVideos are used to supplement the instructor provided material.

It is recommended that you read the pickleball rules book, referee handbook, and if you are a USAPA member, you can take 3 highly informational tests. All this information is available at usapa.org.
Questions, e-mail Charlotte at cj2golf@q.com

FUNDRAI$ING

The POA has finally approved the ability of the QCPC
to raise funds for our Club's use.
We would like to form a committee of members
to come up with ideas (including a tournament)
to raise these funds.
If you are interested in being on the committee,
 please email Steve Shapiro (sshapiro57@gmail.com).
