OUR CLUB,

OUR

This post is in response to concerns we have received from members.

In an effort to offer guidance, the QCPC Board of Directors would like to remind you that it is the responsibility of all Members and Residents of Quail Creek to prevent the spread of COVID.  We live in a very interconnected community and world.  We all share the responsibility of creating an environment that balances the health and safety of our Community, Friends, and Family Members.

Every Quail Creek Resident with COVID (or living with a spouse who tests positive) has a responsibility to follow the CDC guidelines.  Remember that each QCPC member who decides to participate in pickleball has the PRIMARY responsibility to protect themselves while at the pickleball courts by social distancing, wearing a mask, and limiting the time of any potential exposure.  It is important to remember that people are infectious before they show symptoms, and many people with COVID are entirely asymptomatic and will never know they are infectious.  In both cases, members will play at the courts without any reason to know they are contagious.

Anyone whose spouse or other household member tested positive for Covid-19 should follow CDC quarantine guidelines.  If you have had close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 positive individual, please stay away from the courts until your quarantine period is complete.  For Quarantine guidelines from the CDC please click here.

If you have symptoms or test positive, you need to isolate.  The CDC guidelines for Isolation can be found by clicking here.

FEB. 3RD AT 1:30 PM

Big Rule Changes Coming Soon:

Lets, Drop Serve, & In-Out Balls

Win a New Franklin X-40 Ball!

Why are players dropping the ball when serving?

What do you do with a “let” serve?

Your opponent’s shot landed just outside the line.  Are you sure it’s an out ball?  Maybe not!!

Most of us haven’t had time to study USA Pickleball’s many rule changes (effective 1/25/21).  Fortunately, USA Pickleball Ambassador and QCPC member Lenny Friedman has.  Watch this video as he highlights three of the most important rule changes every recreational pickleball player needs to know

You’ll see how to perform the drop serve within the new rules and how it can be used as a powerful weapon in your game.  You’ll also see pro player Tyson McGuffin trying it out for the very first time.

The line call rule change has received much less attention than the drop serve.  You may shocked to find out that, beginning 1/25/21, you need to re-think your line calls.  This is a very significant change affecting all players.

Bonus!!  Email your answer to Lenny’s simple question at the end and you’ll win a new Franklin X-40 pickleball.

See the video HERE

From Bill Foraker, Membership Chair

There seems to be some confusion about the waivers as I am receiving two copies from many people, and that confuses me.  Here’s the scoop.  There are two waivers - one for the PB Club and one for the POA.  Every member needs to sign both, but only one time, unless the lawyers make changes, of course.  So if you’ve signed both this year, you don’t have to sign in any following years.

Ahhh, I hear your question - But how do I know if I’ve signed them.  Well, you sign onto the roster on the web site and to the right side, you’ll see columns for waivers.  If you have X’s in your boxes, you’re good to go!  If you don't, please sign them and get them to me in the next two weeks.

To polish the point further, if you submitted an application signed both the front and back, you have signed both waivers.  The signature at the bottom is the PB club waiver and the back is the POA waiver.  You don’t need the separate forms that are waivers only.  Those waiver only forms are just for those members who submitted their renewals before the waiver requirement started.  So if you’ve already renewed and need the waiver only forms, you can get them from the web site or from the bulletin board in the Ramada.

Thanks for your patience as I learn my new job and I’m really glad we only have to do this waiver thing once!

IN THIS NEWSLETTER
        IMPORTANT CORONAVIRUS AND YOU
Rule changes and chance to win new Franklin x-40 ball
        Saturday Organized Play 3.0
        Thank You

We just found out some pickleball players recently tested positive for Covid-19. We feel it is our responsibility to promote best practices and compliance with current health guidelines. Please read and comply with the following:
  1.  Engage in as much social distancing as possible at the courts.
  2.  All players should wash their hands immediately before playing and sanitize your hands between games.
  3. Consider disinfecting balls before play as these are potential means of virus transmission to all players handling the balls.
  4. Masks to be worn from the parking lot until you enter the courts, but not during play. Also, you must wear a mask if you are sitting out a game.
  5. Do not play if you: (recommended guidelines from the USAPA and CDC) are exhibiting any symptoms of the coronavirus: mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, coughing, difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the CDC.
  6. Do not play if you HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE WITH COVID IN THE LAST 14 DAYS
  7. Avoid contact with others, such as handshakes and high fives.
  8. Adhere to CDC guidelines by not touching your face (after handling a ball or paddle).
  9. Use your paddle and foot to pick up pickleballs and transfer them to your opponent.
  10. Be cautious about touching objects used by many people such as the restroom doorknobs, the water fountain, etc.
  11. Keep Healthy and Safe
Remember, all members have a responsibility to the Community
 to help prevent
the spread of COVID to others.
AND KEEP YOUR EYE ON
 THE PRIZE
THAT IS PICKLEBALL, PICKLEBALL, PICKLEBALL
AND MORE PICKLEBALL!!

********The Dream Comes True********

Robson Plans to Build

16 More

Pickleball Courts in Quail Creek!!

Have you wondered why QCPC Board members are absolutely giddy lately?  It’s because the rumors about the future of pickleball in Quail Creek happen to be true.  Last week Robson announced its plan to build 16 additional pickleball courts in Quail Creek.  Click HERE for link.

In addition to the new courts, the plan calls for a new ramada (with bathrooms and additional storage) and a new parking lot.  See diagram HERE. As with all Robson construction plans, the design is subject to modification.  The exact timeline for construction is undetermined.  At the present time, construction efforts are focused on the new Canyon Club across the street from the pickleball courts.  Given that, 2022 seems likely, though construction on the new courts could conceivably begin as early as late 2021.

This is the culmination of a multi-year campaign by the QCPC Board to educate Quail Creek POA Board members and Robson officials about:

  • the incredible growth of pickleball in Quail Creek.  (Members are playing more hours per week. QCPC membership is growing by double digit percentages annually.  QCPC membership is expected to top 1,000 in just six years or so!);
  • the long-term need for more courts to accommodate demand;
  • the immediate and dire need for more parking (not only for special events, but also for daily play during the winter months);
  • the reasons why additional courts should be located next to the existing pickleball facility rather than in new acreage on the north side of Quail Creek; and
  • specific suggestions regarding important design features.

Quail Creek is already well known for its excellent pickleball courts.  With the addition of 16 more courts, a new ramada, and additional parking, we will truly be in “pickleball heaven.”  Quail Creek will most certainly be recognized as a premier pickleball destination—not just in Arizona, but in all of the southwest!

A STYLISH PLACE

TO STASH YOUR
MEMBER AND
WAIVER FORMS

Bill Foraker is your new Membership Chair and he’s fabricated a stylish and functional box to collect membership applications and all other documents for the club.  The box is just inside and to the right when you approach the gate to the front courtyard.  The box is fairly obvious, but there’s a picture below for your reference.

If there are dogs in the courtyard, please know they are all friendly.  You are welcome to make friends, but please don’t let them out.  The big one is a runner and the little ones aren’t bright.  If you have any trouble, please call me at 812-878-0587.

Membership Applications and Waivers

In the Pickleball Ramada on the right sign of the bulletin board between the restroom doors, you will find Membership Applications.  Both waivers are on the application so if you’ve completed the app and signed both waivers, front and back, you’re done.

In addition, if you haven’t signed the waivers, one for the POA and one for the club, the forms are available just above the Member Apps.  The forms are double sided, so one sheet has both forms.

Both forms are also available for download from our web site.

Each member only needs to sign a waiver once, so if you have already signed yours, you’re done unless there are changes.  You won’t need to sign every year.  Thanks for your patience with this process.

More on waivers in the next newsletter.  I’ll bet you can’t wait.

Parking Issues during Peak Season

As you all are aware, we are in Peak Season and most of the courts are fully booked until 1 pm.  This leaves the parking lot without enough parking spaces for everyone until 1 pm.  With this in mind, if you could follow some simple procedures it would help alleviate some of our parking issues:
  1. If you have a golf cart, please park them two deep.  If you are the 2nd in line, please leave a note in your cart stating which court you are playing on.
  2. Pickleball is a social sport, but once your reservation time is complete, please don't stand around and visit (social distancing is necessary), but rather leave the parking facility as soon as possible.
  3. Remember, since we have the best weather of the year during this season, why not spread out the playing time to utilize the courts all day long.

To see a video on how "ghost doubles" used during rating are played click HERE

Can I get a rating here at Quail Creek?

QCPC rating opportunities have been offered through the International Pickleball Teachers Professional Association (IPTPA).  Although ratings are not available through the club at this time, QCPC is fortunate to now have three Club members (Sharon Kolarik, Bill Vollink, and Jean Bustard) who are IPTPA Certified Rating Specialists.  If you are interested in being rated, contact these individuals directly for additional information on the process.
