Members Rating Update
***2.5 ***3 ***3.5 ***4 ***4.5*** 5

At the last monthly Board meeting on March 2nd, the Board approved updating the qualifications used for our Members Ratings used in Skill Level Round Robins. These can be found in the Policy and Procedures manual pages 7-8 (Click Here).

An overview is that we no longer accept pickleballtournaments.com as a qualifier for 3.0+ Skill Level RR.  QCPC will use the most recent IPTPA or USAP rating in determining eligibility for Skill-Level play. The highest USAP Tournament Player Rating (UTPR) in mixed, women's, or men's double play will be used.

Members should be aware that USAP ratings may go up or down based on tournament play.  So long as a national rating is not superseded by a changed rating, the rating earned by a QCPC member will not expire for the purpose of determining eligibility for QCPC Skill-Level round-robin play.  Also, the list used for member ratings will be updated annually in February, or as needed during the year to reflect known rating changes.

The Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL) expanded to the Tucson area in 2021. Before the expansion, the League had been in the Phoenix Metro/Casa Grande area. The APPL is made up of a Men's and Women's League for skill levels (3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5/5.0). Quail Creek took part in the Tucson area League with a Men's 4.0 Team. The League was a 9 week season (5 home games and 4 away games in the Tucson area) followed by Regional and State play-offs in Casa Grande. Because of COVID, "The Creekers" had to play their home games at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. The League started in January and ran through mid-March.

The Creekers finished 3rd in the 4.0 bracket with a record of 5 wins and 4 losses. The interesting part of the League is that the games are played on the points system. Two points if you win a game, 1 point if you lose but score 6 points or more, and no points for a score of 5 or less. The Creekers finished the season with 220 Team Points and 172 Opponent Points (Points scored by the Opponents). All Players enjoyed the camaraderie among all the Teams and the competitive aspect of the games. The Creekers are planning on playing in 2022 and bring home the 1st place State Title. Hopefully, in 2022 the home games will be in Quail Creek and we will have more Skill Levels (Men and Women) taking part.

Pickle 2 Pickleball Machine
Update Information

Because of the interest
and the number of QCPC members
that have taken the training
for the Pickle 2 Pickleball machine,
the QCPC Board has approved the following
rule for the Pickle 2 Machine.

Effective March 26, 2021,
a QCPC member that has completed
the Pickle 2 training may reserve
the Pickle 2 Machine only one time per week
(Sunday through Saturday).

The only exception to the once per week rule is
if there is an opening the "day of",
then that reservation is open to all members
that have completed the Pickle 2 training.
Please click here if you would like to take the Pickle 2 Training.

 A special

go out to
Jim Malone, Jean Bustard,
 Phil Brule, Paula Davis,
 and Bill Foraker
for developing and implementing the training program

Training Continues

on the Pickle 2

Training sessions are still available on the Pickle 2 pickleball
training machine.

Most sessions are offered during the week in
the afternoons, however two sessions have been added in the
evening.

Sessions last approximately 1 hour and include such things as
the safety features, how to reserve the court and machine and
how to adjust the machine to replicate most shots common to
the game.

To register for a training session go to the QCPC website under
Pickle 2 pickleball machine training and select a training
session.

In order to reserve the machine
 you must first have successfully
gone through the training program.

Remember only club members
who have completed the training
 can be on the court
when the Pickle 2 machine is in operation.

It’s Not Over Yet

Just a reminder,

the POA rules of 6-foot social distancing

 and wearing a mask

from the parking lot to your reserved court

 are still in effect.

Once you are on the court you can play without a mask,

but once you leave the court,

for whatever reason,

you have to put your mask back on.

This applies to all pickleball courts.

We hope to enter the home stretch on COVID in the next few months.  Understandably, we are all impatient.

However, even if you have been vaccinated

or believe you are otherwise a low risk,

please follow the POA rules until they are lifted.

LOBSTER
PICKLEBALL 2 MACHINE USE

We are excited about the strong interest in the club’s new ball machine.  A big thanks to Jim Malone, Bill Foraker, Paula Davis and Phil Brule for hosting training sessions.

Use of the Pickle2 is limited to after morning prime time hours and only on Court 4.  Court 4 is close to the shed, has a power outlet and no stairs to manage.  Court 4 is highlighted in pink on the “Hold my Court” reservation page.

Although court 4 is not restricted to reservations by anyone, we would like to leave this court open for training with the Pickle2.  After morning prime time please organize 2 court reservations on courts other than 3 and 4.

Thanks for your assistance with this.
