Inter-Community Pickleball

Inter-community Evenings

The 2021 Inter-community Pickleball season will start on June 7th at Quail Creek.  All matches, whether at QCPC or GVR East complex (7 S Abrego Drive) will begin at 6:30 pm.  The first round will be held at the Quail Creek Pickleball Courts.  The schedule is as follows:

Monday at 6:30 is 3.5

Tuesday at 6:30 is 4.0+

Wednesday at 6:30 is 2.0/2.5

Thursday at 6:30 is 3.0

  • You don't need an official IPTPA/USAP skill level, but do play at the proper level.
  • The format is a 6 game round-robin with all games played to 11 (win by 1).
  • The SignUp Genius for each level will be available 7 days in advance at 9pm in the evening.  This is not a weekly commitment, so you will need to sign up for the weeks you want to play.
  • The IC Evening will be limited to 16 players with 4 alternates.  On the signup for each week please limit each club to 8 slots. Four days after the Signup is released, all slots are available to be signed up.  If you listed yourself as an alternate you will need to view the SUG to move yourself up to a slot if someone drops out.
  • All players will sign a one-time waiver form at each location if you are not part of that Club.
  • All players will pay a one-time $5 pickleball fee at each location.
  • The SUG link is here, but in the future it will be located on the side-bar of the QCPC website under the "Inter-community" heading.
  •   Please remember to put your phone number in the comments field so that we can get in touch with you due to weather related issues.

Intercommunity Mornings

The morning Inter-community will be played at the GVR Pickleball complex located at 2612 S Camino De La Canoa, Green Valley, AZ 85614.  All games for all weeks will be played at this complex, no games will be played in Quail Creek.

  • All players from outside GVR will have to sign a waiver.
  • All players will pay a one time $5 fee for pickleballs.
  • The format is a 6 game round-robin with all games played to 11 (win by 1).
  • The SignUp Genius for each level will be available 7 days in advance at 9pm in the evening.  This is not a weekly commitment, so you will need to sign up for the weeks you want to play.
  • The IC morning will be limited by the number of courts allowed, with 4 alternates.  On the signup for that week please limit each club to 1/2 the total slots. Four days after the Signup is released, all slots are available to be signed up.  If you listed yourself as an alternate you will need to view the SUG to move yourself up to a slot if someone drops out.
  • The SUG link is here, but in the future it will be located on the side-bar of the QCPC website under the "Inter-community" heading.
  • Please remember to put your phone number in the comments field so that we can get in touch with you due to weather related issues.

Again, this is a morning play for specific skill levels as follows (the courts will be listed on the SUG):

Monday from 8 am to noon is 4.0+

Tuesday from 9 am to noon is 2.0/2.5

Wednesday from 8 am to noon is 3.0

Friday from 8 am to noon is 3.5

This is a great opportunity to meet the members of the Green Valley Pickleball Club, play exciting pickleball, and most importantly have fun!!!

InterCommunity Pickleball

 with
GVR

The Quail Creek and GVR Pickleball Clubs
 are finalizing the plans
for the Intercommunity pickleball play starting on June 7th.

This is open to all members
regardless if you have an official rating or not.

Mondays at 6:30 pm will be 3.5
Tuesday at 6:30 pm will be 4.0+
Wednesday at 6:30 pm will be 2.0/2.5
Thursday at 6:30 pm will be 3.0

This will be played every other week at Quail Creek
 alternating with GVR East.
This is not a weekly commitment.
The SUG will be available on our website
for sign-ups 7 days in advance beginning at 9pm.

There will be a one-time $5 charge
to cover costs of the pickleballs at each court location.

I am looking for a coordinator
for just the weeks in QC for each skill level.
There can be multiple coordinators
for each skill level so no one has to cover each week.
The coordinator will check players in, collect the $5,
 have non-residents sign the waiver,
and put up the appropriate Round Robin sheet
This takes approx 15 minutes prior to the game.
The coordinator also plays that week.

If you are interested in being a coordinator
for your skill level or have any questions,
please email Steve Shapiro @ sshapiro57@gmail.com.

ERNE

WHERE IS ERNE?

WHAT IS ERNE?

WHO IS ERNE

An Erne is an advanced shot on the pickleball court
and is named after Erne Perry,
who elevated the shot
and first brought the shot into mainstream competitive play

The Erne is a shot where you hit the pickleball either (1) in the air
 as you are jumping around the Non-Volley Zone (also known as the Kitchen);
or (2) after you run around or through the Kitchen
and re-establish your feet out of bounds,
just to the side of the Kitchen.

Watch Ben Johns,
the best male pickleball player in the world,
teach Simone Jardim,
the best female pickleball player in the world,
how to do an Erne.

Ice/Water Machine

The POA was not able to fix the ice machine in-house.
They contacted an outside vendor on Thursday,
May 6th who put in a temporary fix.
They hope this will keep the machine
up and running
until a placement part is delivered.

Did You Know...

Did you know that you can report a maintenance issue
with the restrooms, ice/water machine, or lights
 at the Pickleball court facility?
All you do is fill out the online form
which automatically sends the maintenance request
 to get the problem fixed.
It is as simple and easy as that.

Inter-Community Summer Play

Some of you may remember that a couple of summers ago the QCPC played in an Inter-Community Mixed Round Robin with the Green Valley Pickleball Club.  This was a really fun way to meet GVR Pickleball Club members and have great games of pickleball.

The details are below:
  • The IC would begin the week of June 6th at QCPC courts, with a 6:30 pm start.  The location would alternate weekly through August. GVR will be using their East Center location.  Four courts would be reserved for play each evening, with more if courts are available.
  • No weekly committal, just play when you want.  The format is a Mixed (male/female)  6 game Round Robin, just like our Organized Play RR.  You get a different partner each game from the weekly GVR/QCPC players signed up.  This is not a team format where we are just playing against GVR.
  • We would use SUG to sign up for the weekly play, with a link on our website.
  • The players' skill level would be determined by their IPTPA, USAP, or recognized Club rating. In our case, we would allow someone to play in a skill level that they play in Organized Play.
  • The cost would be $5 at each location you play at, but only once for the summer.  This is to cover the cost of pickleballs. Total cost if you play at both locations would be $10 for an entire summer of pickleball. The pickleball that will be used is the Franklin X-40.  We will not be using the QCPC pickleballs.
  • The schedule will be as follows:
    • Skill Level 3.5 on Monday nights @ 6:30
    • Skill Level 4.0+ on Tuesday nights @ 6:30
    • Skill Level 3.0 on Thursday nights @ 6:30
  • To judge the interest level, please click here to fill in the SUG, by May 15th.  Again, this is not a committal, but just being used to see if you might be interested in playing.
  • If there is enough interest by players at the 2.5 level, then that will be scheduled on Wednesday nights @ 6:30.
  • Finally, GVR would like to know if some players might be interested in early morning play at their Pickleball Center at  2612 S. Camino de la Canoa in Green Valley.  If you are interested in this, please also add this to the comment section above.

If you have any questions about the program, please email Steve Shapiro sshapiro57@gmail.com
