FOR THE NEW COURTS

It is an exciting time for our pickleball club as we all anxiously watch the construction of 16 new courts surrounding an even larger ramada. With this doubling of courts, and even more so in facility capacity, is the need to update our future use plans. To that end, in our May board meeting we unanimously approved the formation of a mostly members only committee facilitated by our Membership Chair, Doug Christy. A Board subcommittee updated our vision statement for our club recently to read as follows:

 and opportunities for player development

The objective of this committee is to create a draft 3-year plan for the new expanded facility to fulfill the above-mentioned vision for our club. Components of that plan will be presented by committee members to the full Board starting with our initial presentation at this year’s September 13th board meeting. We are looking for approximately 7 volunteers to be on this committee.

If you have passion and/or experience in the following areas that fulfill our vision, and not afraid to stay around and help during implementation, then this committee really needs you:

• Comradery (friendships, social)
• Sportsmanship (respect and understanding of the game/others)
• Fun and healthful activities (safe and fun offerings)
• Player development (from beginner to pro)
• Best-in-class facility (maintaining and improving this incredible resource)

Since we have a tight timeline for our initial report to the board in September, and to be able to include those snowbirds who have flown away for the summer, we decided to have these meetings via Zoom. They will be 90 minutes to 2 hours in length and Doug will schedule meetings in July, August and early September (prior to the Board meeting). Our goal is to seat this committee within the next month.

 Open Play and Sunday Community Play will begin at 7 am.

Memorial Day Round Robin Social

Saturday, May 28

Come enjoy the last Round Robin Social until the fall. We will start early to avoid extreme heat. The Social Committee will purchase breakfast snacks and juice so you don’t have to sign up to bring anything. Bill Foraker will provide the music and there will be prizes and lots of patriotic decorations.

Registration – 6:45-7:15 AM

Play – 7:30 – 9:30

Social 9:30 – 10:30

For beginners and new players, before signing up we ask that you have taken beginner lessons or were moved out of assisted play. It is important that everyone participating can safely play, knows scoring and positioning and has some experience with all the shots of Pickleball including drives, drops, lobs, overheads, serves and returns.

Parking can be challenging during our socials so we always suggest carpooling, golf carts or riding your bikes.

 had a 3.0 Men's team, 3.5 Women's team,

 two 4.0 Men's team, and two 4.0 Mixed Doubles team participate.

  The QCPC Men's 3.0 made it to the State Finals and placed 3rd.

SUMMER OPEN PLAY

Open Play will continue through the summer during Prime Time.  The number of courts reserved for Open Play will be adjusted if participation changes.  Also, the Open Play schedule (days/times) may change as needed (including the addition of Evening Open Play if there is sufficient interest).

 

How to Find the Open Play Schedule and Location:

The Open Play schedule and court reservations are always shown in the QCPC court reservation system.  Check “Hold My Court” to confirm Open Play times and courts.

Inter-community Pickleball

with GVR

Once again this year the QCPC Board has approved

 Inter-community Pickleball with the GVR Pickleball Club.

 While all of the plans have not yet been finalized,

 what we do know is that Inter-community play

 will begin the week of June 6th at the GVR East Pickleball courts,

 and played every other week at the QC courts through August.

The play will be for levels 2.5/3.0/3.5/4.0 on the nights listed below.

Monday 3.5

Tuesday 4.0

Wednesday 2.5

Thursday 3.0

The IC will begin at 6:30 in the evening with no morning play.

The cost will be $5 for the season

 if you wish to play at the QC courts,

 and $5 for the season to play at the GVR courts.

WHAT WE NEED!

One IC Administrator from QC that will interact with GVR

A minimum of 1 coordinator

 for each skill level (2.5/3.0/3.5/4.0)

 to be in charge of the games when at the QCPC.

This position involves collecting the money at the start of the season,

 posting the names of the players

 and choosing the appropriate

 round robin sheet for that evening

- a total of 15 minutes every other week.

 You can also play that week if you want to.

Without these positions being filled

we won't be able to have the Inter-communty this  year.

"Keeping hydrated while playing on the courts is good for your health
 and good for your game!
 It delays fatigue, helps maintain mental acuity,

 optimizes ability to regulate body heat and improves recovery time.

For play time up to 60 minutes plain water is fine.

  Anytime longer than this or if you are a super sweater (you know who you are)
or if the day is really hot,
 you will need to replace lost electrolytes

 like sodium either in your drink or in your snacks.

 Choose salty foods.

If your play continues throughout the day

 such as a tournament setting
 you will need to restore your glycogen

 (fuel stored in the muscles used during play)

by drinking sports drinks containing carbohydrates

 or drinking fluids consumed with carbohydrate rich foods.

 This helps to speed fuel to the muscles."

The Lost and Found box is located in the Ramada.

 If you find something that isn't yours please put the item in the box.

If you left an item behind at the courts, please look there first.

 on the qc.pickleball.plus website?
 Under that section you can list items that are
 lost, found, for sale, or wanted. 

Finally, on May 30th all items in the Lost and Found Box

 will be cleaned out and donated to Goodwill,

 so please claim them if they are yours.

Policy & Procedures Manual Update

The updated P & P is now available on the QCPC website. 

The latest update became effective on April 12th. 

The update involves only how reservations

 are made for the Pickleball Machine. 

The Pickleball Machine is no longer available

 for same day reservations.

 All other procedures for the pickleball

 machine usage and reservations are the same.
