IPTPA Ratings

QCPC provides members the opportunity
to be rated using the IPTPA (International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association) system.  IPTPA is a nationally recognized rating,
meaning that your rating will be entered into a database
accessible by anyone for confirmation of skill level.
The benefit of having a rating from an established organization
is to be able to play in skill-restricted activities.
Currently most activities here are NOT skill restricted
and members are NOT required to have a rating.
However, at many other organizations throughout the country
a rating is required to signup for skill round robins.

IPTPA ratings will start being offered through the club in March.
An IPTPA rating consists of two parts:
1) a skills test and 2) three games of "skinny singles".
Both parts must be passed to pass the rating.

QCPC has not offered ratings since March 2020.
If you are unfamiliar with IPTPA ratings,
more information on skill level tests can be found
 HERE.

"ghost doubles" as it is termed in this video

 Other useful information includes:
  1. Three people can be rated at a time.  Everyone in the group is tested at the same skill level.
  2. A rated player will play in on the skinny singles.  For example, a 3.5 player will play in on a 3.5 rating.
  3. In the skill portion players will be tested on dinks, drops, punch volleys, lobs, overheads, serves and returns.
  4. The skinny singles are 3 games to 11 rally scoring.  Player must score 23 out of 33 available points (about 8 points per game).
  5. The test takes about 1-1/2 to 2 hours.
  6. Only certified raters can administer the test.
  7. This test was designed to help players improve their skills.

To signup for a rating you must be an IPTPA member ($15 annual fee) and pay the Certified Rating Specialist $33 the day of the rating.

One or two practice sessions will be offered prior to the test.  No charge for these practice sessions, but participants must be registered for a rating.

Parking At QC Courts:

Questions & Answers

Why can’t I find a place to park?  The simple answer is that our parking lot isn’t big enough when all our courts are full unless many players arrive by golf carts and bicycles.  It’s gets even harder to find a space after 10:30 AM when players begin arriving for the next time slot.

If the parking lot is full, can I park in undesignated spaces or handicap spaces?  No!  If you do, you run a very good chance of getting a parking ticket.  The parking lot must remain accessible to emergency vehicles at all times, and it’s illegal to park in a handicap space unless your car has the proper tag.

What should I do during busy morning hours?

  • Ride your bike.  Use the bike racks or, if full, move your bike somewhere off the parking lot and sidewalks.
  • Drive your golf cart.
    • Always park in spaces designated for golf carts when available.
    • Always pull to the front.
    • Fill all spaces two-deep, and please leave your cart key or an identifying note if not in front.
    • Please do not park golf carts in car spaces unless all golf cart spaces are full.
  • If you drive a car:
    • Park in spaces designated for cars.
    • If there are no spaces, your options include:
      • Waiting until a car leaves a parking space.
      • Driving back to the residential area east of the courts, legally park in front of a completed residence, and walk the pathway back to the courts.  See Quail Creek POA Rule 4.4.

What is QCPC doing about the parking problem?  The QCPC Board has communicated with the QCPOA and QC Patrol about this for over two years.  QCPC has proposed and requested temporary solutions (until the new courts and parking lot are built), without success.  QCPC recently did so again and emphasized the urgency of the matter during this busy season.  Back and forth communications are ongoing.

What can I do to help?  If you would like to reinforce the need for temporary parking relief at the QC pickleball courts (until the new courts and parking lot are completed), you can email the elected resident QCPOA Board members.  Jack Davis, jld111946@gmail.com.  All that is required is to state whether you have ever been unable to find a parking space, whether you have ever given up and gone home, and why you think finding a solution is important.  Please remember that our two elected resident QCPOA Board members are a minority on the QCPOA Board.  A friendly, informational email to help them understand the scope and urgency of the problem could be helpful in persuading the appointed QCPC Board members.

EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION
AND WE WANT TO KNOW YOURS

The QCPC Board will be sending out a survey tomorrow via Mailchimp about how the Club is doing, and asking your thoughts on what we should be doing. With 550 members, the QCPC is a diverse group, and we want to make sure we are meeting the needs of our Membership.  The survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete, with the survey closing in February 19th.  The results will be presented at our Membership meeting on March 3rd, and then sent out via the newsletter.
