POA Guest Policy: Important Update for Private Play

As a result of the many excellent questions from QCPC members and QCPC Board members at the QCPC Board meeting on July 29, the club is seeking clarification of the POA guest rules from the General Manager.

The responses received so far establish that the basic POA rule for guests invited to private play is this: Invited guests may use QC pickleball courts if the guests are registered with the POA (using the existing POA procedure) and have a current Guest Card.

Please note that this is not quite the same as what was previously communicated to QCPC members.  As of now, what has been made clear is that all guests (whether staying in-house or a local friend coming to QC to play a couple hours of pickleball) are treated the same.  This means that all members can invite any guest(s) to play pickleball in private play as long as they register them with the POA for a Guest Card.  The General Manager confirmed that Guest Cards can be issued for one day, and they can be issued or reactivated multiple times for the same guest.  All the other POA rules and procedures will apply (30 free days per guest in a 12-month period, etc.).  See POA Rules, Section 12.1.

The General Manager also stated that while a guest in private play does not need to carry his/her Guest Card when accompanied by a QC resident, the guest must still have registered with the POA.

Apart from private play, the POA reiterated that it is willing to consider for approval specific club-authorized activities for which guests could be invited.  Several proposals for such club activities have been or will be submitted by QCPC members to the POA Board for potential approval.  The QCPC Board is also planning to submit similar proposals to the POA prior to the September POA Board meeting. If any of these are approved by the POA, details of implementation (procedures, scheduling, eligibility, etc.) will be communicated as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is a complicated matter that involves many POA rules, approvals, and procedures.  QCPC has little or no control over the process or the information received.

The General Manager has asked if the club could have one individual communicate with the POA. With all the letters from our members going to them it is getting complicated. Please ONLY direct concerns and letters to Frank Baker who will respond back to them. Thank you for your help with this.

APPL is focusing on building up the number of players and teams in our 2.5 skill level and we need your help!

Right now, our 2.5 flights are where the biggest opportunity for growth lies. We’re asking all current APPL players to help us recruit new 2.5 players to our league. These are often your friends, neighbors, or rec partners who play regularly but haven’t made the leap into organized play yet. Let them know that they don’t need to be “great”—just game!

How You Can Help:

  • Personally invite 2.5-level players to team up or sign up as a Free Agent (see below).

  • Encourage them to pair up with similar age and skilled players to form a team.

  • Recommend that they go to the APPL website and sign up for our Newsletter (red button on home page).

Whether you’re a 3.0, 3.5, or beyond, chances are you know someone who would thrive in our 2.5 division. Let’s give them that first nudge. Together, we can grow the game, one player at a time!

Pickleball Machine Training

To use the pickleball machine or be on the court with the machine, you must be a Quail Creek Pickleball Club member, receive the pickleball machine training and sign a waiver.

During the session, you will go through safety protocols, how to reserve the machine, and use and care of the machine.

If you would like to be trained on the pickleball machine, please text Naomi Giles at 858-945-7337 or Lauren Meine at 507-458-8329.

Naomi and Lauren aim to train members in an expedient manner on a first come, first serve basis. With that in mind, they ask all training requests to come from each individual.

Using the Pickleball Machine

There is a Pickleball Machine page on CourtReserve, under About QCPC. You can find links to documents on how to reserve and help with using the machine for those who have been trained.
