Your QCPC Social Committee
Donate your pickleball/golf/bungee jumping clothes for a good cause
On Tuesday, March 11th, from 1-3 PM the Quail Creek Pickleball Social Committee will have a sale of gently used and washed sports clothing for women at the lower Pickleball Ramada. Cash only. All the proceeds will go to the Genesis House in Green Valley, which provides safe housing to abused women and their children.
Contributions of clothing are needed. If you’ve been thinking it’s time to freshen your wardrobe and clean out your closet, this is the perfect opportunity. Please drop off the washed clothing at Tricia Kordalski’s house, 1417 N Miranda Lane, anytime between March 2nd and March 8th. There will be a box outside her front door.
More about Genesis House
The QCPC pickleball machine is out of order until further notice.
On December 18th twenty Quail Creek Pickleball Boys Night Out members and spouses attended the Tucson Roadrunners vs. San Diego Gulls AHL hockey game. The Roadrunners won 5-1.
The Quail Creek Pickleball Boys Night Out group play round robins Monday and Thursday nights and Sunday mornings. They also meet to drill and have formed an APPL team.
The "Boys" often share food and adult beverages after playing in highly competitive, friendly, and fun pickleball. The friendships and camaraderie shared by all is an example and advantage of pickleball in Quail Creek. More future social outings are planned.
GQ PICKLEBALL FALL 2024 REPORT
With my Fall season now complete, I want to thank ALL of our members that signed up and participated in a REGULAR, PRIVATE, or “KLINICS with KATHY” lesson. I had over 100 different students partake in 60 classes held from September to December (includes me being gone all of October and several weeks off during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays). Me and our Club are so impressed with how many of you want to improve your game and skill level.

There will also be several combined playing levels (2.0/2.5 and 3.0/3.5) taught together in hopes of filling more classes and help avoid conflicts with other choices (as well as allowing students to take more than one lesson per week).

Changes to Open Play
Open Play (except Wednesday Open Play 6-Game Round Robin) will have three levels, each with a paddle saddle and separate courts:
Novice (2.5): Courts 5-6
Intermediate (3.0-3.5): Courts 9-12
Advanced (3.5+-4.0+): Courts 7-8
The addition of a third level is to provide a less intimidating Open Play experience for novices and less experienced players.
Ratings are not required for Open Play. Skill numbers are provided to assist players in determining their proper level. The 3.5+ level corresponds to the skill level likely to earn a medal in a tournament or a regional championship in the Arizona Pickleball Players League at the 3.5 level. Additional skill level descriptions are posted on the bulletin board by Court 11.
For December through March Open Play is from 9:00-11:00 AM. No signup is required.
What You Need to Know About Open Play
Open Play is “drop-in” social play - a terrific way to meet others
Held during Prime Time on courts 5-12
Regular Open Play:
Every day except Wednesday
Stay for all or part of - play as many games as you want and take breaks when needed
Waiting players rotate onto courts using Paddle Saddles (instructions are at the courts)
In general, play on courts matching your skill level (self-assessed)
You are free to occasionally pIay at a higher level, but try not to overstay
You are welcome to play at a lower level to meet or help newer players, but you must moderate your game accordingly, especially on Novice courts
Wednesday Open Play 6-game Round Robin:
This is still drop-in play but structured as a Round Robin
Arrive and check in at least 15 minutes prior to start time – you must check in so your name is added to the round robin chart
You need to be able to play all 6 games in the round robin
January Advanced Intermediate (3.5)
and Advanced (4.0) Ladders
Two Ladder Formats, Alternating Weekly
Partner Ladders (January 8th and 22nd) - Play all games with the same partner. One registration on CourtReserve per pair; must identify partner.
Regular Ladders (January 15th and 29th) - Change partners every game. Every participant must sign up on CourtReserve.
How Does a Ladder Work? It’s Simple -

2025 Winter Leagues
Registration Dec 15 – Jan 10
Are you looking for another play event? Interested in meeting new players with a similar skill level? Looking for fun & spirited competition? QCPC Winter Leagues are for you!
We are trying something new for this upcoming season. We are going to offer 3 different skill levels. If you do not have a formal rating, you may self-rate. If you are not sure how you should be rated, ask people you play with or the club coaches for advice.
2.5 League – this is a great way to continue your pickleball journey; think of it as the next step after Assisted Play. We are offering separate Men’s and Women’s division; however, we may need to combine to make it Mixed based on registration numbers.
3.0 League – intermediate; more experience and a few more skills developed. We are offering separate Men’s and Women’s division; however, we may need to combine to make it Mixed based on registration numbers.
3.5 League – advanced intermediate skills; this league will be Mixed.
Select the league that best fits your skill set. For fun, competitive play, don’t aim too high or too low. Matches will be played during February and March on Saturday afternoons. The season will be approximately 4-6 weeks. Due to a shorter season, please only sign up if you are available for the majority of the season.
If you are interested, please register on CourtReserve (go to Events/List/Categories/League) between December 15 and January 10, 2025.
Details to be worked out based on registration:
League configuration (Men’s, Women’s, or Mixed)

Nine Things NOT to Do (😒) and One to Always Do (😊)
Don’t reserve more courts than allowed (2 in Prime Time; 4 in non-Prime Time) multiple days in advance of play. (Give others a chance to reserve.)
Don’t invite more than one local non-resident guest (per playing group) during Prime Time. (Members have priority during Prime Time.)
Don’t leave club balls on the courts when finished. (Balls deteriorate when left out in the hot sun.)
Don’t reserve more than two consecutive hours of court time per group. (You know why.)
Don’t leave gates open when finished. (Desert mammals like our new courts and have been leaving “presents” for us.)
Don’t reserve courts for other groups. (Reserving members should play.)
Don’t be a “no show.” (Cancel reservations for courts that are no longer needed.)
Don’t be shy about volunteering. (QCPC needs volunteers to function. If you enjoy the club, volunteer.)
Don’t think no one will notice if you willfully ignore QCPC rules. (Members see you. Maintain your good reputation.)
In short, always be considerate of your fellow members!
Pickleball Eye Protection
Almost every pickleball player will eventually have a slam or hard shot hit them in the face. Pickleballs can travel as fast as 60 mph, and opposing players at the kitchen lines are only 14 feet away. The result can be tragic. QCPC members have suffered direct hits to their eyes causing serious injury. So far, no one has been blinded or permanently injured. But this is only a matter of luck.
Wear eye protection if you don't want to risk retinal detachment, edema, and corneal abrasion. You can invest in one of the many sports eyeware products available. Alternatively, standard sunglasses or regular glasses with polycarbonate lenses will help. Work glasses or goggles (available with clear lenses for night play and many tints for day use) also work well. Products with very good optical quality are available at prices as low as $20.

Music on the Courts
Many members enjoy music while playing pickleball. This can be fun and is currently allowed, but there have been some conflicts with members on nearby courts. If the music cannot be turned down enough so that it is not disturbing other members, then the music should be turned off. In other words, in the event of a conflict over music, the default resolution is “no music.” We don’t want issues like this to result in hard feelings or escalation to the Board. Thank you for being considerate of other members.
