Next Board Meeting

December 10th at 3:15 pm

Madera Clubhouse, Silver Room Please note the new start time.

HOW TO SAVE A LIFE!

QCPC is sponsoring “Hands Only" CPR/AED training for members on January 16th. Are you prepared with the current CPR and AED procedures?  I CERTAINLY WAS NOT last summer in Show Low when a fellow pickleball player fell to the ground with a HEART ATTACK.  Thank goodness another player started CPR immediately and helped save his life.  Those that receive quick CPR have a 95 % better chance of surviving without brain damage. ARE YOU PREPARED?  This training is for people who want to know how to perform CPR effectively but don't need a CPR certificate. No exam.

QCPC CPR/AED TRAINING

JANUARY 16TH , Ocotillo Room

Maximum 10 people per class

Time: 12:00 - 1:00 PM

Training provided by Greater Green Valley

Community Emergency Response Team

Register on CourtReserve starting on December 1st at 9 PM

If the first class is full, add your name to the waitlist.

A second session from 1:15 - 2:15 PM will be added if needed.

4th ANNUAL ELF ON A SHELF

MIXED ROUND ROBIN SOCIAL

Saturday, December 7, 2024, 1 - 3 PM

Registration 12:15 – 12:45

(please be on time or risk losing your spot)

Santa’s Elves are busy on the North Pole side of Quail Creek to bring its members another fun-filled Round Robin to get us all in the Holiday spirit. We are starting at 1:00 PM, hoping for warmer weather as December can feel like the North Pole. We will finish around 3:00 PM and are asking all players to bring an appetizer to serve 8 – 10 people (one per household). We will have plug-ins for crock pots. The Elves have started baking, so desserts will be provided. Santa has filled his sleigh with red and white wine, but if that’s not your ‘mistletoe’ then please BYOB!

There will be a special prize for the best costume (Social Elves excluded) so wear your favorite Holiday sweater, Santa or Elf hat or outfit. Following play, there will be a drawing for some fabulous prizes.

The QCPC Social is open for all QCPC members to participate in at all skill levels. The Social is a 6-game mixed round robin and players are expected to play all 6 games. If you have to cancel, please remove your name from the sign up ASAP so that a member on the waitlist can move up. The goal of the Social and all QCPC events is to have a fun, safe event, so please be aware of who you are playing with and their level of experience.

Alternative weather date is December 14.

Scheduled Play

Pickleball Prime Time Change and Open Play

As the weather gets cooler the Quail Creek Pickleball Club (QCPC) is changing their Prime Time hours, which includes Open Play. This change will be effective December 1st.

Open Play is open to all Quail Creek Residents, not just QCPC members.

Prime Time Hours:

  • Until November 30th, 8am to 10am

  • Effective December 1st, 9am to 11am

Open Play during Prime Time:

We offer two different open play formats:

  • Open Play – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday (every day except Wednesday) can be found on the upper courts area during Prime Time Hours

    • This is drop-in play, no sign up required. You can play 1 game or stay for the entire 2 hour session.

    • Paddle saddles are used for different levels of play.

  • Open Play 6-Game Round Robin – Wednesday

    • Sign up is required at Upper Ramada no later than 15 minutes before the beginning of Prime Time.

    • The round robin is a structured play event, with a commitment of 6 games.

Open Play is a great way to meet and play with a variety of players!

 New Organized Play Event

Starting December 2nd the 3.5 Women’s Organized Play event will return on a new day! This event will be on Mondays from 11am to 1pm. Thank you so much to Vicki Love for volunteering!

As always all Organized Play events require registration using CourtReserve. Members can participate in only 1 morning event per week and no more than two events per week total, regardless of starting time. Please be considerate to your fellow players and not exceed these limits!

Scheduled Play Updates

2024 fall program (Organized and Skill-Level Play, Open Play & Open Play Round Robin) revised due to Prime Time change starting Sunday December 1st to 9AM to 11AM.

Organized and Skill-Level will remain outside of Prime Time. The new play times will be 11AM to 1PM or later. (see below).

Organized and Skill-Level Play require Sign-up on CourtReserve.

  • Members may participate in only 1 morning event per week and no more than two organized play events per week regardless of starting time. In other words, members can participate in a morning organized play event and an afternoon/evening organized play event, but not also a second afternoon/evening organized play event. Similarly, members can sign up for two afternoon/evening organized play events, but not also a morning organized play event.

  • Organized Play is self-rated.

  • Skill-Level Play requires rating.

  • Always sign-up on CourtReserve to participate, if you aren’t signed up you will not be allowed to play. This is not a drop-in activity. Additionally, this gives the club an idea of how many individuals are interested.

  • If you need to cancel, please delete your CourtReserve sign-up, so that a waitlist player can move up.

  • If you are on the waitlist, double check the day of the event, you may have moved up to play.

Open Play & Open Play 6-Game Round Robin will continue to be available during Prime Time. (see below)

Thank your coordinators for their efforts running your events. They make this program successful!!

Lorelei Croft, Brenda Davis, Joyce Butler, Susie Eckhardt, Tricia Kordalski,

Player Development

Advanced Doubles Team Drill-n-Play

The names are changing.  But the learning and fun remain the same.

To more accurately reflect the offerings, the Player Development ladders’ names are changing.

The 3.5 Advanced Doubles Team Ladder will be the 3.5 Advanced Doubles Team Drill-n-Play.

The 4.0 Advanced Doubles Team Ladder will be the 4.0 Advanced Doubles Team Drill-n-Play.

Sessions begin with coach led drills followed by play against coaching teams and other participant teams.

For a more complete description, go to CourtReserve/Member Pages/ Player Development.

Volley Tips

Yes, Virginia, there is more to net play than dinking. Sometimes your opponent will put that ball up a little high. You’re feeling frisky. So, rather than reset, you choose to (A) swing wildly as hard as you can and hope to hit the ball, or (B) volley. If you chose (B), check out the video above.

Safety first. Always practice and play within your capabilities. This video is provided for informational purposes. QCPC does not endorse any product or service displayed or promoted.

The Great Ball Mystery

By now you know that a very large number of the new Selkirk winter balls disappeared within a handful of days.  The cause is still a mystery.  However, the rate of loss has since slowed, so thank you for your care and watchfulness.  As always, QCPC pickleballs should be returned to the ball tubes after play.  Our Court Maintenance team will continue to monitor this situation.
