Quail Creek-Saddlebrooke Ranch Competition

April 5, 2025, at the QC Courts

Players Needed!

Spectators Welcome

The Quail Creek-Saddlebrooke Ranch Competition is coming back to Quail Creek on Saturday, April 5th, 10:00 AM.

QC women (3.5 and 4.0) and Men (2.5 and 3.0)—we really need you to sign up now.  QCPC has lots of pickleball talent, and this is our chance to show it!  It would be a shame to hold this event on our home courts without a full QC team.

Competition Format:

a. Separate Men’s and Women’s Divisions (no Mixed)

b. Levels: 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0

c. Round Robins for both Divisions and all levels: Three QC pairs vs. three SR pairs (each QC doubles team plays a total of 6 games vs. SR teams)

d. Winner will be determined by the total number of games won by QC and SR teams.

Teams Must Register on CourtReserve.  There is room for only three QC teams per round robin.  Teams will be selected in the order of signup.  Use waitlists in case teams drop out.  Registration closes on March 30th.  Only one player signs up per team.

Spectators Welcome.  This will be a fun Spring event, with action on both the upper and lower courts.  Windscreens facing the lower ramada will be rolled up for good views of play.  Plan to come support the QC team.

2025 QCPC Member Survey Report

244 QCPC members completed the 2025 QCPC Member Survey this year.  They provided valuable opinions and suggestions on many subjects, including court maintenance, Player Development, Scheduled Play, socials, club communications, and dues, among other things.

In general, member satisfaction with QC facilities, maintenance, and club activities is quite high.  96% of members said they would recommend QCPC to a friend.  99% thought our facilities were well maintained.  Most other measures ranged from 70%-90%.

Some concerns were expressed about:

  1. The difficulty of getting into Player Development activities

  2. Uneven skill levels in Scheduled Play, and

  3. Getting into private groups at the preferred skill level.

A significant number of members would like:

  1. To have men’s and women’s round robins

  2. The POA to remove the windscreens and grass by the lower ramada

  3. To limit music for some part of the day, and

  4. To move Prime Time later by one hour during the coldest months.

There were also good suggestions to add extra court numbers to some lower courts (done) and “bird wires” to the lights there (planned).  Your Board will review and discuss other potential action items at the next Board meeting on April 2, 2025.

The details on these and all other Survey items can be found here. Survey Report

Volunteer Appreciation Event

April 2, 2025, 4-6 PM

Your QCPC Board wants to thank all of our volunteers who make our club so successful.  We are holding our annual Volunteer Appreciation party on April 2, 2025.  If you are a volunteer, you should have received an invitation to which you can RSVP on CourtReserve.  We hope to have a great turnout!  Michelle and Al Skoglund are again hosting this event at their beautiful home.  The party will be catered, and your Social Committee will provide the beverages.

If you are a volunteer and you did not receive an invitation, please reach out to Chris Reitz (chrisreitz10@yahoo.com).

MARCH 2025 “Q-TIPS”

From Gary Quantz, your USA/PPR Certified Instructor

1.    I am amazed how many players go into a game without ANY strategy other than hit the ball back over the net and see what happens. Do you “meet and greet” with your partner before play? Do you cover who and how the middle of the court is going to be covered? Do you pay attention which direction the wind is blowing? Are you going to communicate and help each other out on calls and who is hitting the ball? What happens if you play with a partner that does not come up to the net? That is just the “basics”! Do you then look over at the other side of the net at your opponents and know if they are right or left-handed? Who and how will they be covering the middle? Are they coming up at the net or playing back? Is there an “Alpha” or stronger partner between the two? Are they “bangers” or have a soft game and can dink and drop? By just playing “reactive” on every ball that is hit at you and being controlled by your opponents on how they want you to hit the ball and where is going to start to be tiresome. Sure, the exercise and comradery is great. Pickleball is FUN! However, as your skills and shots improve, start thinking about a game plan to get more out of this amazing game. Smacking the ball is fun, playing PICKLEBALL is even more FUN!

2.    I am pleased to announce that our Thursdays “KLINICS with KATHY” will continue throughout the full month of April! Kathy Palese has kept her calendar open for one more month so we can continue to offer this extremely popular clinic to improve your game before the 2024/2025 teaching season is over. Once my April class schedule is loaded on Court Reserve, you can sign up for the full month in advance and will not need to wait each and every week to book your dates as you do for my Regular classes. This class is geared towards 3.5 level players but we will accept 3.0 students upon approval with Gary Q.

3.    Lastly, I am happy to see that our QCPC has started to offer AED/CPR training classes (one was recently held on March 20th). It is always a good idea to keep up with your first aid training. Although infrequent, accidents can/do occur. I am Red Cross First Aid/CPR certified and I strongly suggest that everyone playing on our courts should know where our first aid/AED kits are located (both women’s restrooms) and have our street location (1461 E Quail Crossing Blvd) on your contact list in case 911 has to be called. More information is available on our QCPC website under “Reminders.” There also is a training video on how to use an AED device for review.

LOOKING GOOD = PLAYING GOOD

Roxanne Housley

The Quail Creek Pickleball Club Social Committee organized a gently used women’s athletic clothing drive with proceeds benefiting the Club. Lead by Tricia Kordalski and Tina Davis, unwanted clothes were dropped off at Tricia’s and then sorted by type and size. Clothes were displayed at the Lower Level Ramada on Tuesday, March 11 and dozens of shoppers not only came to purchase items but also to enjoy a mimosa and visit with friends. The sale netted $200 for the Club.

The items that didn’t sell have been taken to DaZee’s Resale Boutique. Proceeds from their sales benefits victims of domestic abuse.

Thanks to everyone who donated clothing and all of the shoppers who made this a successful event.

We Know You Are Out There!

Next IT Chairperson

Every day hundreds of QCPC members make use of CourtReserve, QCPC's court and club management software.  Few of us would want to go back to the days when club play,  socials, Player Development, and private groups used SignUpGenius, etc., to register for play and events.  CourtReserve does all of that and much more on your phone, your iPad, and home computer.  We have been able to use CourtReserve because the club has had a volunteer to manage the software and set up events, courts, etc., for member use.  That volunteer is the QCPC Information Technology Chairperson.   QCPC currently has an immediate need for another member to step up and volunteer to serve as the new Chairperson.

Information Technology Chairperson

The Information Technology (IT) Chairperson is the lead administrator for the primary software(s) used by

the QCPC for memberships, court reservation, event registration, document distribution, the member

directory, report generation and other information. The IT Chairperson ensures that other authorized

QCPC system users and sub-administrators have access as needed. He/she is responsible for

administering the calendar of events and court reservations and for making seasonal and other

operational adjustments when necessary. The IT Chairperson also serves as a technical advisor to Board

Members, Chairpersons, and QCPC members on matters pertaining to this software and its functions.

Without a new IT Chairperson, the alternatives are to gradually take CourtReserve out of service or attempt to outsource this position for a monthly fee (an unbudgeted expense).  We don't think either is a good option.  We believe there are members in the club who could readily handle this important position who are also willing to "give back" to QCPC by volunteering a handful of hours per week.  You'll have full visibility and input into everything the club does with plenty of time left over to play pickleball.

If you have a background in administering or working with software or the interest and aptitude to learn, please contact Dave Mungo (303-335-6707), John Lehman (johnl722x@outlook.com), or Paula Davis (p.davis01@comcast.net) for more information ASAP.

Announcements

QCPC will be using a CourtReserve feature that allows messages, from the club to members, to be posted on the site. This will allow QCPC to send less messages by email and save the club money. It will also be easier for members to view messages when they are on CourtReserve.

Here is how you will find the messages:

Computer or Tablet

When logged on to CourtReserve, messages will be under a menu tab labeled “Announcements”. If there is a red dot next to “Announcements” then you have a message. Messages will have a set display time. For example, if they are announcing an event, they will possibly display until the event or its registration is closed. Some messages will be sent to the entire club, but some will be sent to just the people or groups that need the information.

Click on the Announcements tab to view the message(s).

Mobile Device

You will see a red dot next to the CourtReserve logo when you have messages. The messages will be on the Home page under “Announcements”. Click on the message or on “View All” to read the entire message. You can save messages until they are removed, based on the preset display time, or you can delete the messages, when on the Home page, using the “X”.

Scheduled Play Updates

2025 spring program (Organized and Skill-Level Play, Open Play, Wed. Club Round Robin and QC Community Play) revised due to Prime Time change.

Prime Time will change starting Tuesday April 1st to 8AM.

Organized and Skill-Level will remain outside of Prime Time. The new play times will be 10AM to noon or later (see below).

Organized and Skill-Level Play require Sign-up on CourtReserve.

  • Members may participate in only 1 morning event per week and no more than two organized play events per week regardless of starting time. In other words, members can participate in a morning organized play event and an afternoon/evening organized play event, but not also a second afternoon/evening organized play event. Similarly, members can sign up for two afternoon/evening organized play events, but not also a morning organized play event.

  • Organized Play is self-rated.

  • Skill-Level Play requires rating.

  • Always sign-up on CourtReserve to participate, if you aren’t signed up you will not be allowed to play. Additionally, this gives the club an idea of how many individuals are interested.

  • If you need to cancel, please delete your CourtReserve sign-up, so that a waitlist player can move up.

If you are on the waitlist, double check the day of the event, you may have moved up to play.

Open Play and Open Play 6 game Round Robin will continue to be available during Prime Time (see below).

Thank your coordinators for their efforts running your events. They make this program successful!!

Joyce Butler, Susie Eckhardt, Tricia Kordalski, Rich O’Day, Lorelei Croft, Rachael Cusick, Brenda Davis, Nick Espinosa
