Competitive Doubles Ladder Play

New Time/Sign-Up Required

What Is This?

Weekly doubles play using a ladder format.

When Is It?

Fridays from 4-6 PM (new time)

How Does the Ladder Format Work?

Players arrange their own partners (M-M, M-F, or F-F) in advance.  Six games will be played with the same partner in a friendly competitive environment.  If you win, you move up a court.  If you lose, you move down a court.   Players may change partners each week and/or may skip weeks.

What’s Special about This?

As play progresses, pairs will naturally migrate to courts with appropriately challenging opponents.  For most pairs, this will provide a great opportunity to test themselves by “playing up.”  One team will finish the evening as “King of the Hill.”

What Skill Level Is Required?

Mid-3.0 to 4.0 players.  Ratings are not required.  For this to work well, 3.0 pairs should at least be reasonably strong 3.0 players.  We expect to have some 4.0 players there every week.    (There were seven 4.0 teams in week 1.)

Why Is This Being Added to Scheduled Play?

The ladder format is used by many pickleball clubs, and it’s very popular.  Also, many QCPC members tell us that they would like opportunities to play better players.  Others want to participate in competitive play without joining a league.  APPL players can use this to practice for matches.

Limited to Twelve Doubles Pairs—Sign-up Is Required

Limited to first 12 pairs (M-F, M-M, F-F).  ONE PARTNER (and only one) MUST REGISTER on CourtReserve for each doubles pair.  Look for the “Competitive Doubles Paddle Battle” under “Events.”

The Paddle Battle requires an even number of doubles pairs.  If an odd number of pairs register to play, the last registered pair is not guaranteed to play.

GQ PICKLEBALL REPORT

It’s now “peak season” as 2024 turnout has been steady. My January class total was 116 students that attended either a REGULAR or PRIVATE lesson (or both). Even though February currently has five days of rain/wind cancellations, I’ve had close to 50 students already attend classes during the first two weeks of the month. For those members interested in taking a lesson, please give my GQ Pickleball classes a try. Comradery and FUN are the main focus and many of my students are returnees.

UPCOMING 3.0 & 3.5 CLINICS:

Back by popular demand! I will offer two clinics during the last week of February/first week of March, and in late March.

My late February clinic subject will be improving your NVZ VOLLEY game. You will learn proper technique when using block and punch volleys along with strategy of when and where to place your volley shots. NVZ VOLLEY clinic dates will be Monday, February 26 & March 4 for 3.0 Level Students and Wednesday, February 28 & March 6 for 3.5 Level Students.

Another DROP SHOT clinic is scheduled on Wednesday, March 20 & March 27 for 3.5 Level Students and Friday, March 22 & March 29 for 3.0 Level Students. I will again be joined by Kathy Palese, SNAP Pickleball instructor to help you learn this critical shot that will help you level up your game.

For both the VOLLEY and DROP SHOT clinics, class maximum is 8, minimum 4 students. All clinics will be 90-minutes and two per day will be offered: Morning sessions from 11am to 12:30am and afternoon sessions from 1pm to 2:30pm. The cost is $20 per person. Don’t delay when registration starts! These clinics often fill up quickly.

“HOUSEKEEPING” MATTERS"

If I have 5 or less students sign up for a REGULAR class, I will only use one court. If I have 6 or more students sign up, I’ll be using two courts. Be sure to sign up for my REGULAR classes early on Court Reserve since I must give back a court with 5 or less students within 48 hours. Also, I can no longer take “overflow”. If my class maximum is 8, that is my total number of students allowed. You can waitlist but it’s better to sign up early to make sure you can get in. If the waitlist clears, you get a spot. If not, try and sign up for the following week earlier. PRIVATE classes always only use one court and you must email me (grquantz@gmail.com or gqpickleball@gmail.com) the week prior to reserve a spot. Lastly, if you have a relative or friend staying or visiting here in Quail Creek, they cannot attend one of my lessons unless they become an associate member. Please check our QCPC website for more information.

GQ PICKLEBALL is taught by Gary Quantz, certified USA & PPR pickleball instructor since 2021.
